About This Sweet Couple

Ellie is literally a little butterfly – she could make friends with anyone and has this infectious sweetness that just draws people in. Brock just finished his program at Calderdale College (a military college) and is off to start his Army career, so these two are about to travel the world together! This wedding was really the start of their next chapter, which just made this day feel extra meaningful.

The love between these two and the joy from their family and friends was absolutely palpable all day. Every single moment felt intentional and full of genuine celebration!

Gold Mountain Ranch: the Ultimate All-in-One Wedding Venue

Ellie and Brock chose Gold Mountain Ranch because they wanted lodging that doubled as their venue – and honestly, it's the perfect venue! Picture this: you wake up on your wedding day in the same breathtaking location where you'll say your vows, celebrate with your people, and fall asleep as newlyweds. No shuttles, no timeline stress, no leaving your mountain paradise. Just pure, uninterrupted celebration in one of the most stunning settings Colorado has to offer.

Gold Mountain Ranch sits in Ouray, Colorado – aka the "Switzerland of America" – and let us tell you, the nickname is totally earned. The San Juan Mountains surrounding this area are so similar to the Swiss Alps that you'll think you've been transported to Europe.

Ouray, in southern Colorado, is about a 7 hours drive from Denver International Airport, or you can take a connecting flight into Montrose and you're only an hour away. Yes, it's a bit of a journey, but trust us – those extra miles are so worth it for the privacy and untouched beauty you'll find in the San Juans. This isn't your typical crowded mountain town; it's a hidden gem where your celebration feels completely secluded.

Wildflower Dreams Come to Life

When Ellie reached out in April for her July wedding, she had one message: "We're going all out, throw the budget out the window!" Our response? Heck yeah, we are! Sometimes you meet couples who just get it – they understand that their wedding day is about creating an unforgettable experience, and they're ready to invest in making every detail perfect.

Ellie's vision was wildflower-filled, colorful, and dramatic. She wanted bold blocks of color in her florals that would pop against the mountain backdrop. The ceremony aisle and dinner table were filled with the most incredible floral arrangements – think vibrant wildflowers in colors that make your heart happy.

Ellie, personally, thrifted and sourced all those gorgeous baskets you see throughout the ceremony and reception space. She’s also a super talented hairstylist, so she did her own hair and makeup with help from her mom and sister – such a sweet family moment! This allowed them to put their budget toward other elevated details like those show-stopping florals and that incredible champagne tower moment (more on that below!). It's all those personal touches that make a wedding feel authentically yours, and this wedding was the perfect balance between elevated and personal.

The Perfect Timeline for Mountain Weather

Behind the scenes, we battled mountain weather all day long (classic Colorado!), but you'd never know it from the photos. This is exactly why working with an experienced team matters – we know how to roll with Mother Nature's plans while still creating magic. The bride was so go-with-the-flow all day, even when the vision needed slight adjustments. In the end, everything turned out absolutely perfect.

Pro tip: Mountain weather is unpredictable, so always have backup plans. But don't stress about it – some of our most magical photos happen when the weather gets moody!

The Ultimate Reception Setup

One long table to seat all 33 guests was top priority for this couple, and they wanted their dinner to be completely al fresco. There's something so magical about gathering everyone you love around one beautiful table with mountain views stretching as far as the eye can see. It creates this intimate, family-style feeling that makes every guest feel truly special.

Now, can we talk about their champagne tower for a hot minute? Ellie and Brock both poured bottles of Veuve over the top (because why not go all out?), and then everyone got to sip on Veuve the rest of the night. It was such a fun, celebratory moment that had everyone cheering and laughing.

Ellie's only requirement for her guests? Wear nothing but color and patterns! Each guest and family member showed up in something bright and bold, creating the most incredible rainbow of color against those dramatic mountain peaks. And it complimented the vibe of their day perfectly! We’re always obsessed with guests that show up and show out for their couple. No request is too big or too small when we’re talking your wedding day!

Planning a Last-Minute Mountain Wedding

With only three months between booking and the big day, this was definitely a sprint, but that's where our team really shines! We were in constant coordination mode – pulling together vendors, managing details, and making sure everything came together seamlessly. Ellie wanted a completely done-for-you experience where her family could just show up and celebrate without lifting a finger.

That’s exactly why for this celebration, we brought on Courtney with Timeless Traditions as a day-of coordinator, and it was honestly the best decision for this bigger intimate wedding! She welcomed all the vendors, organized all the rentals, set up chairs, styled the entire long table – basically handled all the logistics so we could focus on capturing every magical moment.

Here's the real talk: When you're planning for 30+ guests (especially in the mountains), having an extra set of hands is crucial. It's the difference between a stressed-out couple and/or family members trying to manage details & set up and a couple who gets to be fully present for their own celebration.

Why Ouray Should Be on Your Wedding Radar

Let's talk about the town of Ouray itself because it's absolutely magical! This old mining town has so much character – think rooftop bars, incredible restaurants, historic saloons with classic pool tables, cozy cafes, and the cutest souvenir shops. There's even a custom hat bar in town (which you know we're obsessed with!). It's Colorado western vibes to the absolute max.

Ouray is part of the San Juan Mountains, which includes other incredible spots like Telluride and Silverton. We love this entire area because honestly, the San Juans are the most insane mountain range in Colorado (don't tell Breckenridge we said that!). If you're looking for dramatic peaks, untouched wilderness, and that authentic Colorado mountain town experience, this is your spot.

Gold Mountain Ranch: The Ultimate Wedding Experience

If you're looking for a venue where you never have to leave, where you can wake up to mountain views and fall asleep under the stars in the same magical location, Gold Mountain Ranch is absolutely worth every penny. When our team arrived, we literally cried – it was that beautiful! Picture perfect doesn't even begin to cover it.

Spanning 1,200 acres above the City of Ouray, this ranch is nestled in the San Juan Mountains and encompasses one of Ouray's oldest mining districts. The luxurious ranch house, The Wilmont, serves as the perfect headquarters for your entire wedding weekend. You're only an hour's drive from Montrose, Telluride, or Silverton – making it the ideal base for exploring all that southwestern Colorado has to offer.

What makes this venue extra special is that it's not just about the wedding day itself. Your guests can explore the ranch through horseback adventures (just like the miners did over a century ago!), or for the more adventurous couples, there's even an exclusive via ferrata climbing expedition through the heart of the ranch's mining history. It's the kind of place where your wedding weekend becomes an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
